CHINA OPENS AMMUNITION FACTORY IN NIGERIA
China has opened one ammunition production line in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), to upgrade the Nigerian indigenous defence industry.
Senior Colonel Kang Honglin disclosed this at a reception to mark the 86th anniversary of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) in Abuja.
Honglin, who said most of the PLA peacekeepers are deployed in Africa, said China is the biggest troop contributor among the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
“For years, PLA provides Nigerian military personnel with opportunities to participate in training courses at different levels in China. There is also significant collaboration in defence products. For instance, F-7 Fighter Squadron has become the backbone of Nigerian Air Force.
One ammunition production line has been established at DICON, with the assistance of China, which will upgrade Nigerian indigenous defence industry,” he said. He noted that the construction work of Nigerian Navy’s Offshore patrol vessels is ongoing in China and the first ship would be delivered next year.
“We believe that these fruits of collaboration could effectively help Nigerian military to strengthen its capacity and capability in safeguarding peace and maintaining stability in Nigeria and in the region,” he said.
What's your take on this,do you think its a wellcome development, considering the security challenges in the country or its going to pose a serious security problem in the nearest future?
