Update: Rivers' State Crisis

Meanwhile, riot almost broke out at Rumuigbo, home-town of Okocha, early Sunday afternoon..

It was gathered that after the morning onslaught by the police on members of the Save Rivers Movement, the group decided to relocate Rumuigbo Civic Centre to hold the event.

Armed policemen, however, re-appeared to disperse them. Several gun shots were heard, while tear gas was also fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

Abe1Local community youths later reinforced to block the road, making burn-fires to protest what they described as unjust treatment by security agents.

Residents informed the press that the police have started to raid the vicinity, a situation which has led to mass arrest of youths.

Relatively, passers-by have been subjected to raising their hands before gaining access to and fro the area.

As at the time of filing this report, spokesman of the Rivers State command was not reachable for comments.
