According to Musa Malami, the attack occurred on Friday evening which left many houses burnt, when the suspected sect members invaded village.
Victims of the attacks, who were brought for medical attention at the Umaru Shehu Ultra Modern Hospital in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital have disclosed that, over 20 people were killed when the sect members attacked their village in Sabon Gari, along Damboa, Biu road.
He said that over 100 houses, including shops, motorcycles and vehicles were destroyed in the attack, adding that the Sabon Gari main market was completely razed with property worth millions of naira were destroyed by the insurgents.
Also an unconfirmed report has it that the villagers were able to kill two of the attackers with the assistance of some vigilante group, while three of the attackers who made attempt to escape were equally arrested in Damboa Town by some vigilante youth, popularly known as civilian JTF.
A residents who did not want his name mentioned told news men in an interview that the terrorists invaded the community at about 11:35 pm, using several motorcycles and some Hilux Toyota vehicles, firing gunshots on fleeing residents, setting houses, shops and vehicles ablaze.
Another resident, Malam Yahaya told newsmen that," we have seen what we have never dreamt of it in this village. Close to midnight yesterday, when we had retired to bed, we started hearing some people chanting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Great). Almost at that time, they began to shoot sporadically, setting ablaze houses, shops and vehicles.
"As I am talking to you now, I'm relocating from this village with my family. I personally lost one of my close uncles in the incident, and I have no reason to stay in this place again. The attackers said they will still come back to wipe out everybody next week". He stated.
One of the victim, Malami, who earlier spoke to our correspondent, said it would take hundreds of troops to confront the terrorists as they were many in number.
However, owing to lack of telecommunication network in Borno which is currently under emergency rule, the Spokesman of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Mohammed Dole and the Police Commissioner, Mr. Lawal Tanko could not be reached. Email messages sent to them were not successful, as no replies have been received prior to the time of this report.
