The World Bank has picked 15 Nigerian universities of the 53 proposals submitted for final evaluation for its funded African Centre of Excellence. Thirty proposals from universities in Nigeria, Ghana,
Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Senegal made it to the final stage.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Julius A. Okojie, OON who disclosed this at a meeting with Evaluators of the ACE in Abuja on Thursday, said other proposals not shortlisted would be reviewed and submitted to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for local funding.
He disclosed that 27 federal universities had already been interlinked with ability for virtual learning environment.
Successful applicants will receive $8 million each from the World Bank.
