INEC dismisses security concerns for 2015 Elections

As it continues to prepare for the 2015 elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it hopes security concerns in some parts of the country would have been addressed before then.

The national chairman of the commission disclosed this during a meeting with chairmen of state independent electoral commissions in Abuja.

He also said the commission is constantly meeting with security agencies and working hard to ensure everything is ready to help conduct credible elections in such areas of concern.

Controversies have trailed several elections conducted by the commission in the recent past with several reports of ballot box snatching, intimidation of voters and other violent activities raising concerns among Nigerians about the possibility of having a free and fair election in Nigeria.

Having admitted on different occasions that there had indeed been lapses in the commission's past handling of elections, Dr. Attahiru Jega's recent declaration should be another welcome development to many Nigerians.
