Anambra Election: Women protest poor conduct of Guber election

A group of women from Anambra State have staged a peaceful demonstration against the irregularities in the just concluded Anambra State governorship election. The women, over 100 in number, drawn from the 21 local government areas, had gone to the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission to register their grievances.

They were barred from entering the electoral commission's office by security personnel.

No official of the commission attended to them.

One of the protesters called for the cancelation of the election.

"It is our right to choose who to govern us. More than 70 per cent in some local governments did not vote," the protester said.

She alleged that the election was not free and fair.

There have been reports of omission of voters' names from the register, an irregularity that led to the rescheduling of election in 65 wards in Idemili North and South Local Government Areas of the State, extending voting by one day.

The Election was declared inconclusive by INEC, Supplementary Election to be conducted in some problem areas, and the All Progressives Alliance and the Peoples Democratic Party's candidates asked their supporters to shun the rescheduled election
