The Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, on Tuesday told the leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) that he would consult President Goodluck Jonathan before deciding on whether to join the opposition party or not.
Amaechi, disclosed this while at a reception organized at Government House, Port Harcourt, to welcome the visiting leaders of the APC, who were in the state to woo him and his supporters into the opposition party.
The APC leaders present at the meeting include; General Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief BisiAkande Acting National chairman , Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, Chief Tom Ikimi and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. Others are; Senator George Akume, Senator Osita Izunaso, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Hajia Sa'adatu Farouk.
The governor said apart from Jonathan, he would also consult political and opinion leaders in the state and the South-South geo-political zones before making up his mind and promise to give his reply to leaders of the opposition party at a rally that would be held at the Adokiye Amesiameka Stadium in the state capital on a date yet to be fixed.
We are a group of seven governors. I am peculiar in that group of seven because, the President comes from our zone. Is it not? I will get up, I will consult our leaders. I will consult even you; you are very important. I will consult the President; I will. He is from our zone, dont worry. We will consult all consultable and I will come back to you.
The day we will take a decision, either for or against, it will be at that our new stadium. That stadium has capacity for over 40,000 individuals, if we are staying we will call the president to come and address us and if we are going we will call Tinubu and Buhari to come and address us, the governor said.
